Lead Accountant – Cash Management Unit

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking a Lead Accountant for its Cash Management Unit. This senior accounting role oversees the revenue deposit functions and supports the financial operations of the Medical Assistance Trust Fund.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities for the Medical Assistance Trust Fund, including billing, reconciliations, audits, analysis, and payment posting.
• Perform complex cash management, revenue control, accounts receivable/payable, funds disbursement, and expenditure control.
• Implement and maintain financial operating policies, coding structures, and procedures to ensure timely financial services.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for banking system processes and ensure compliance with state, federal, and departmental regulations.
• Prepare reports and support external audits, both Federal and State.

Required profile

• Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking, OR six years of full‑time experience plus 24 semester hours in accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics (or an advanced degree in a related field).
• CPA license is acceptable in lieu of experience.
• Ability to substitute academic credits for experience as described in the posting.

• Proficiency in implementing financial policies and coding structures.
