Large Passenger Vehicle Operator - Scott Base, Antarctica

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Large Passenger Vehicle Operator for its US Antarctic Program (USAP) at Scott Base. The role provides shuttle and taxi transport for passengers, flight crew and personnel, and acts as a dispatcher for transportation needs. Deployment to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace by following the SafeUp program and USAP safety policies, and taking part in safety briefings, meetings, hazard analyses and inspections.
• Drive shuttle vehicles (11-14 passenger vans, Foremost Delta II, 56-passenger Terra Bus, 59-passenger tractor-trailer) on varying road surfaces and in bad weather, transporting passengers and flight crew to and from the airfield ramp.
• Perform and document mechanical and fluid checks before and during operation, complete shuttle and taxi logs, and use two-way radios according to prescribed procedures.
• Provide shuttle service, taxi service and shift-change transport, monitor flight schedules and dispatch tasking as a dispatcher, and act as bellhop for flights on request.
• Interact professionally with the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, and support other departments as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of vehicle/equipment operating experience, including six months with large capacity passenger vehicles and/or over-the-road tractor-trailers.
• Valid US driver's license; US citizenship is required for facility credentials at this location.
• Medical, dental, drug screening and background checks required by the NSF and employer.
• Ability to lift and move items, climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold.
• Willingness to participate in community programs and to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.

Required skills

• Preferred: CDL with air brake endorsement.
