Laboratory Technician III

About the role

The Laboratory Technician III will work in the Molecular Pathology Lab at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, supporting advanced diagnostic testing and research. This full‑time evening shift position involves specimen accessioning, data entry, and coordination with pathologists and lab leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced manual processing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), conduct higher‑level accessioning for esoteric testing, and resolve LIS logs.
• Create slides, cell blocks, and frozen sections; embed tissue for histology and assist with cytology adequacy assessments.
• Investigate and resolve data entry problems, tracking issues, and quality‑assurance blocks.
• Serve as a subspecialty client liaison, handling specimen receipt, sorting, tracking, and delivery within and outside the lab.

Required profile

• Associate degree in a science field (or equivalent experience).
• At least two years of laboratory processing experience; four years may substitute the education requirement.
• Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program can substitute education and experience.
• Ability to work evenings (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) on a full‑time schedule.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for accessioning and data analytics.
• Experience in slide preparation, frozen section processing, and histology embedding.
• Manual specimen processing techniques, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Knowledge of safety SOPs, bio‑hazard handling, and use of personal protective equipment.
• Ability to perform detailed data entry, problem investigation, and issue resolution.
