Laboratory Support Supervisor - Overnight Shift

About the role

AdventHealth in Ocala, Florida is hiring a Laboratory Support Supervisor for a night shift covering 10:30 PM to 7 AM, with rotating call. The supervisor leads and supports laboratory operations, including pre-analytical activities, phlebotomy services and staff guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and oversee pre-analytical laboratory activities such as equipment maintenance, inventory control, specimen collection, processing and cleaning
• Provide technical and support information on laboratory testing for all age groups
• Support staff through scheduling, workload assignment, troubleshooting and motivation
• Assist department leadership with staffing, interviewing, orientation, training, coaching, mentoring and competency assessment
• Coordinate student clinical experiences in affiliated education programs and lead performance improvement activities
• Maintain department workspaces and enforce safety policies, including PPE, handwashing and hazardous chemical handling
• Handle hazardous waste transport after completing required training

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (associate degree preferred)
• At least 2 years of related laboratory experience; 1+ year of leadership experience and 3+ years of technical experience preferred
• Ability to direct phlebotomists and other support staff daily
• Knowledge of current phlebotomy practice and ability to maintain records and reports
• Ability to handle complaints and escalate them through established channels
• Conversational English reading, writing and speaking; driver's license required for AHL only
• Additional licensure or certification may apply depending on unit or state

Required skills

• Technical skills for laboratory specimen collection
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
