K-8 French Foreign Language Teacher

About the role

The K-8 French Foreign Language Teacher designs and delivers foundational French instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards. The role focuses on building communication skills, cultural awareness, and preparing students for NYS Checkpoint A assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver age‑appropriate French lessons that meet NYS World Languages standards.
• Use immersive techniques such as Total Physical Response, visual aids, songs, and storytelling to develop listening and speaking skills.
• Integrate French‑speaking cultures through geography, music, and traditions to foster global awareness.
• Conduct formative assessments, performance tasks, and progress monitoring to track language acquisition.
• Communicate regularly with families about student growth and cultural projects.
• Collaborate with elementary, middle, and high school staff to ensure a seamless K‑12 language sequence.
• Participate in school events, grade‑level meetings, and cultural celebrations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in French, French Language & Literature, or a related field.
• Valid state teaching credential with an endorsement in French/World Languages (Grades 7‑12).
• 2‑5 years of successful classroom teaching experience in middle or high school French.

Required skills

• Experience with student information systems such as PowerSchool or Infinite Campus.
• Proficiency in data platforms like NWEA MAP or AAPPL/STAMP language assessments.
• Ability to manage instructional resources through Learning Management Systems (LMS).
