Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Waycross RYDC (Georgia)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to join the Waycross Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records, and reports accurately.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and intervene with youth to maintain order and discipline.
• Assist in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Serve as Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Lieutenant.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (or equivalent).
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months, or four years of military experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months.
