Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Waycross RYDC

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to join the Waycross Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic and educational environment for detained youth while supporting the mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct guidance, structure and positive role‑modeling to promote pro‑social behavior.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records and reports accurately.
• Inspect, inventory and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and intervene with youth to maintain order and discipline.
• Assist in training, selecting and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Review youth information to identify special needs and ensure appropriate attention.
• Act as Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Lieutenant.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED and at least six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate and Advanced within the first six months, or four years of military experience.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to meet physical agility standards required for safety and security duties.
