Part‑Time Fire Inspector – San Antonio

About the role

The role involves conducting field inspections and evaluations of life‑safety, fire‑safety, and fire‑protection systems for commercial and residential properties in San Antonio. As a part‑time Fire Inspector you will ensure compliance with fire codes, city ordinances, and relevant regulations while providing guidance to building contractors and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarms, generators, fire pumps, elevators, and special life‑safety systems.
• Inspect commercial and applicable residential occupancies for compliance with fire and life‑safety codes and city ordinances.
• Interpret fire codes, advise contractors, and recommend fire‑safety materials or equipment.
• Test operational readiness of fire‑suppression, detection, and alarm systems, documenting maintenance needs and deficiencies.
• Investigate fire‑hazard complaints, underground storage tanks, and emergency access to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Verify proper storage of flammable liquids and gases in businesses and residences.
• Maintain accurate records, inspection reports, and inventory of fire‑prevention equipment.

Required profile

• Knowledge of Federal, State, and Texas fire and life‑safety codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment under stressful or hazardous conditions.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and legal documents.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for public presentations and complaint resolution.
• High school diploma or GED and a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
• Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Inspector Certificate (preferred additional certifications listed).
