Juvenile Correctional Captain – Metro RYDC (Atlanta, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Captain for the Metro RYDC facility in Atlanta. In this position you will help create and maintain a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while providing leadership to staff and ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Supervise staff during youth transfers between facilities and manage day‑to‑day operations.
• Maintain order and discipline through active supervision and intervention.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to detained youth, emphasizing safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Manage administrative and human‑resource activities for subordinate staff.
• Implement emergency plans, oversee contraband searches, and ensure proper inventory of logs, keys, tools, and equipment.
• Enforce all facility policies, rules, procedures, and regulations for the safety of youth and staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED plus two years of supervisory law‑enforcement experience, or one year as a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant (PSP223), or three years of military experience at E‑6 rank or higher.
• Must obtain and maintain the State of Georgia P.O.S. T. certification within six months of hire.
• Ability to meet physical agility standards required for maintaining safety in a correctional environment.
