Investment Accounting Associate II - Mortgage Loans & Real Estate

About the role

MassMutual is hiring an Investment Accounting Associate II for its Investment Controllership team, based in Boston or Springfield, Massachusetts. The role supports accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual accounting closes for mortgage loan and real estate asset classes, in line with applicable regulations, and contributes to process improvements and project management.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual reports, financial statements, footnote schedules, regulatory filings and management reports prepared by the third-party administrator.
• Analyze trends and results with peers and the Financial Reporting team, and help prepare, analyze and present monthly financial analysis reports to senior management.
• Support annual regulatory audit requests and discussions with auditors.
• Implement new statutory and GAAP investment accounting requirements and set up accounting processes for new investments and transactions.
• Develop, document and maintain an internal control framework, monitor investment accounting controls including vendor work, and recommend improvements.
• Collaborate with Accounting Policy, the Chief Investment Office, Tax, Financial Reporting, Capital Management and business unit controllers, and lead increasingly complex projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree.
• 4+ years of investment accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Ideal: CPA designation or progress toward certification, and experience with investment, loan, mortgage loan or real estate accounting.

Required skills

• 2+ years of Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, PivotTables, data analysis and large financial datasets.
• Statutory (STAT) and GAAP accounting knowledge preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
