Investigator – Legal Department

About the role

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced Investigator committed to social justice. The Investigator supports attorneys and litigation teams by locating individuals, conducting interviews, and managing case materials throughout various stages of litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate cases at different litigation stages and conduct intake interviews to assess suitability.
• Locate, interview, and maintain contact with clients, potential clients, and witnesses; retrieve court records.
• Coordinate witness appearances, prepare demonstrative evidence, and serve subpoenas.
• Identify and liaise with subject‑matter experts, conduct related research, and support expert hiring.
• Assist attorneys with legal strategy discussions, deposition preparation, and testimony.
• Create and maintain case data, charts, and graphs using Litify, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Develop and manage cooperation agreements with staff and municipalities.

Required profile

• Proven experience locating individuals and conducting effective investigative interviews.
• Ability to adapt quickly to case updates or changes.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with diverse populations.
