Internal Auditor – Landfill

About the role

The Internal Auditor will execute audit test steps to evaluate the adequacy of internal controls related to reporting accuracy, policy compliance, and operational standards at landfill sites across the country. The role involves significant travel, up to 50% of the time, and focuses heavily on environmental compliance and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform defined audit procedures to test compliance with company policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
• Coordinate audit activities and communicate status and results to the audit team.
• Document audit test procedures, results, and findings clearly and concisely.
• Identify, assess, and report exceptions and weaknesses in internal controls.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with business units, corporate management, and audit team members.
• Travel to landfill locations, potentially up to two weeks per month.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• 0–2 years of relevant audit or accounting experience.
• Relevant certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, CISA, or PMP are preferred.
• Audit/accounting experience at a Big 4 firm or Fortune 500 company is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
• This position is not sponsorship eligible.

Required skills

• Familiarity with data‑analytic tools such as Diligent, Workiva, ACL, or IDEA.
