Claims Examiner - Workers Compensation Team Lead (CA/NV)

About the role

Sedgwick is looking for a Workers Compensation Team Lead to supervise multiple teams of examiners and technical staff for workers compensation clients. The role covers monitoring workloads, providing training, giving technical and jurisdictional direction on claim reports, and keeping track of claims in team diaries, including frequent diaries on complex or high-exposure claims. Jurisdiction is California or Nevada, and licensing is required.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and process complex or technically difficult general liability claims, investigating and gathering information to determine exposure and managing them through action plans to timely resolution.
• Manage the litigation process and coordinate vendor referrals for additional investigation and/or litigation management.
• Lead team meetings, assign accountability for follow-up items and gather compliance and claims-processing information for team meetings.
• Assist in interviews of adjusters and clerical staff and give feedback to the hiring manager.
• Provide limited support to the team lead with monthly review of adjuster workloads, noting trends and suggesting adjustments.
• Supervise up to three direct reports: administer personnel policies, interview, hire and develop colleagues, hold performance discussions, and provide leadership and motivation.

Required profile

• 5 years of claims management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
• Professional certification applicable to the line of business preferred.
• Jurisdiction knowledge and licensing for California or Nevada required.
• Ability to handle work-related stress, multiple priorities and deadlines, with clear thinking, judgment and discretion.
