Instructor, Commercial Truck Driving

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a qualified Instructor to lead its Commercial Truck Driving Licensing program. This position involves delivering classroom instruction, supervising hands‑on training, and ensuring students meet state certification standards. The role supports the mission of improving transportation safety and workforce readiness across Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver lesson plans for technical and occupational courses related to commercial truck driving.
• Evaluate student progress, maintain records, and prepare required administrative reports.
• Manage classroom and training‑area safety, equipment, and supply needs, including budget requests.
• Collaborate with students, staff, and other educators to address instructional issues and support student success.
• Assist with recruitment, retention, and job placement initiatives for program graduates.

Required profile

• Current Georgia State Department of Driver Services Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.
• At least one year of experience as a commercial truck driver; associate degree preferred.
• Strong human‑relations abilities and a good reputation within the trucking community.
• Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.

Required skills

• Computer skills for documentation and reporting.
• Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
• Familiarity with U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) drug and alcohol policy and compliance.
