Instructional Design Intern - Spring/Summer 2027

About the role

Hy-Vee's Learning & Engagement department is looking for an Instructional Design Intern for the Spring/Summer 2027 period. The intern supports the design and development of engaging learning materials that improve employee performance and support business goals, working closely with instructional designers and training leaders. The position reports to the Director, Customer & Employee Experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and developing learning materials across formats such as e-learning, instructor-led training, job aids and visual content.
• Create and edit graphics, layouts and visual elements to enhance the learner experience and keep brand consistency.
• Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts on learning solutions and content updates.
• Support content in the Learning Management System (LMS) and help organize project files, assets and documentation.
• Take part in project meetings, brainstorming sessions and feedback reviews, and help with quality assurance reviews.
• Help update existing training programs and resources, track and maintain trainee files, and stay current on trends in instructional design, e-learning and graphic design tools.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Graphic Design, Communications or a related field.
• Interest in learning and development, training or employee experience preferred.
• Previous coursework or project experience in design, training or multimedia development preferred.
• Physical ability for sedentary work, with vision and basic motor skills as described in the posting.

Required skills

• Familiarity with design tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and/or e-learning tools is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication, creativity, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
