Indirect Tax Specialist – Sales & Use Tax Manager

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and experienced tax professional to lead our Sales & Use tax function. Reporting to senior leadership, you will manage all tax‑related activities for a fast‑growing $100M+ organization, with a strong focus on Avalara implementation and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including filings, reporting, and payments.
• Oversee and optimize Avalara, ensuring accurate configuration, scalability, and proper usage.
• Maintain exemption certificates and perform taxability determinations.
• Monitor nexus, ensure state and local tax compliance, and lead tax audits.
• Serve as primary liaison with external tax advisors, reviewing outsourced filings for accuracy.
• Coordinate tax calendars, ensure timely filings, and uphold federal, state, and local requirements.
• Evaluate and redesign outsourced tax processes, driving automation and internal controls.
• Partner with finance and accounting teams on transaction tax treatment and support M&A due diligence.
• Stay current on tax legislation, assess business impact, and contribute to tax planning initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3–5+ years of tax experience with a focus on sales and use tax.
• Hands‑on experience with Avalara.
• Proven ability to build or improve tax processes and manage multi‑state compliance.
• Experience in high‑growth or mid‑size companies preferred.
• CPA or advanced degree is a plus but not required.
