Income Tax Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Income Tax Specialist to join a leading machinery manufacturing organization in Houston. You will oversee federal, state, and local income and franchise tax obligations, ensuring accurate filings, audit readiness, and sound tax positions across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare federal corporate income tax returns and related schedules.
• Coordinate preparation and filing of state and local income and franchise tax returns, including extensions and estimated payments.
• Perform apportionment calculations, state‑specific modifications, and net operating loss utilization.
• Maintain filing calendars and track jurisdictional obligations to meet all deadlines.
• Respond to tax notices and support audit examinations by gathering records and drafting responses.
• Research technical tax matters such as nexus, apportionment methodologies, and regulatory developments.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory updates to assess impact and compliance risks.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to collect data and resolve tax‑related questions.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in federal and state income or franchise tax within a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of corporate income and franchise tax principles, including nexus, apportionment, and unitary reporting.
• Proven ability to meet tight compliance deadlines across multiple jurisdictions.
