In-House Legal Counsel

About the role

We are looking for an In‑House Legal Counsel to join Gruve, a fast‑growing AI‑focused software services startup. The role will be based onsite in Redwood City, CA (or Plano, TX) and will give you broad exposure to commercial, operational and corporate legal matters as the company scales.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as leasing, hosting, purchase contracts, MSAs, SOWs, NDAs and vendor agreements.
• Partner with sales, operations, product and engineering teams to support enterprise customer negotiations and contracting strategy.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks related to operations, people management, contractor management, cloud and software services.
• Support compliance initiatives including data privacy, information security and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Assist with corporate matters such as entity management, policies, governance documentation and contract playbook development.
• Manage outside counsel for specialized matters and contribute to building scalable legal processes, templates and workflows.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate legal concepts for non‑legal teams.
• Excellent organizational skills and comfort managing multiple deadlines in a fast‑moving environment.
• Willingness to work onsite in Redwood City, CA or Plano, TX.
