Hydrographic Survey Technician

About the role

Prudent Engineering is seeking a Hydrographic Survey Technician to join its Syracuse team. The role involves supporting hydrographic survey operations, ensuring data quality, and delivering final reports for infrastructure projects across New York and Pennsylvania.

Key responsibilities

• Perform data QA/QC, equipment setup, calibration, and troubleshooting during survey missions.
• Acquire and process hydrographic data using multi‑beam or single‑beam systems.
• Maintain survey equipment, including boats, GPS units, and total stations.
• Produce final deliverables and reports with minimal supervision.

Required profile

• Degree preferred in Survey, Geomatics, GIS or related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to travel up to 70% and spend up to 10 hours per day on a boat.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States and a valid driver’s license.

Required skills

• Experience with multi‑beam or single‑beam hydrographic survey equipment.
• Proficiency in HYPACK, SurveySonar, WizAutoCAD, and MicroStation.
• Knowledge of RTK GPS, Static GPS, and Robotic Total Station.
• Boat operation and maintenance capabilities.
• Familiarity with Discover Side Scan and Discover Sub‑bottom systems.
