HVAC Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to support a government contract based in Kings Bay, Georgia. The role covers installing, servicing and repairing environmental-control systems in residences, office buildings and other commercial and industrial settings, including air conditioning units from 5 to 200 tons.

Key responsibilities

• Install, service and repair environmental-control systems using refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout knowledge.
• Mount compressor, condenser and chiller units, fabricate and install ductwork and chassis parts, and cut, bend and thread piping.
• Join tubing and pipes with sleeves, couplings, unions, solder and brazed joints.
• Electrically connect motors, compressors, temperature and humidity controls and ventilation fans to control panels.
• Test systems with nitrogen, charge refrigerant and glycol, check pressures and look for gas leaks.
• Replace defective controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and wiring, and wrap pipes in insulation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Either an HVAC/R technical school diploma, or 3 years of verifiable commercial journeyman HVAC/R experience or a county, state or city HVAC/R license.
• Valid state driver's license and CFC Refrigerant Universal Class A certification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials; US citizenship required for this location.
• Subject to a government security investigation and must meet ongoing eligibility requirements.
• Physical demands: frequent walking and standing, occasional climbing up to 24 feet, lifting up to 50 lbs.

Required skills

• Strong computer skills for troubleshooting digital control software.
• Knowledge of specialized tools for corrective and preventive maintenance.
• Standard tools of the trade.
• Preferred: Metasys, Telatrole or Niagara building automation experience.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of $36.71, with shift differential, hazard pay, lead pay and on-call pay.
• Benefits contribution of $15.42 per hour, 401(k) matched up to 6%, 12 paid holidays and paid time off starting at 2.62 hours per pay period.
• Safety shoes allowance of $175 and prescription safety glasses up to $250 annually.
