Carpenter - Seasonal Antarctic Support Contract

About the role

Amentum is hiring a seasonal contract Carpenter to support the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The role covers maintenance and construction work, alone or in combination, under the supervision of the Carpenter Foreman, PM Coordinator or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Tasking depends on prior experience and the ASC schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Perform rough framing and finish carpentry with a variety of materials and tools
• Carry out construction work in undeveloped and remote areas, including outdoors in wind and extreme cold
• Track material usage and update inventory records, and coordinate materials with other departments
• Respond to emergency service calls on time, inside and outside normal hours
• Document hours worked, tasks, materials and processes accurately
• Follow design drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams, and follow or help write Standard Operating Procedures
• Identify hazards and code violations and report them; use computer-based tracking applications
• May deploy to remote research facilities, including McMurdo, and occasionally help other trades
• Take part in community programs such as house-mouse, daisy-picking, galley clean-up and recycling, and comply with ESH, waste management and quality requirements

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least four years of documented carpentry experience, including rough framing and finish carpentry
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship (required for facility credentials)
• Valid US driver's license; able to lift and work in extreme cold

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and diagrams
• Prior computer experience and willingness to learn labor, inventory and maintenance tracking software
• Preferred: wilderness first responder, first aid training, metal stud framing, drywall finishing, commercial construction experience, remote work experience, and Microsoft Office proficiency
