HR & Payroll Coordinator

About the role

The Center for Global Sustainability at the University of Maryland is looking for an HR & Payroll Coordinator to support day‑to‑day human resources and payroll operations. You will work closely with Center leadership, the School of Public Policy, and central university offices to ensure accurate processing of HR transactions and payroll compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate and process HR transactions in Workday, including hires, job changes, terminations, and additional pay entries.
• Prepare and route offer letters, faculty contracts, student appointment documents, and maintain complete personnel files.
• Track appointment end dates, contract renewals, and funding changes to trigger timely actions.
• Coordinate onboarding activities, including employment documentation and system setup.
• Monitor employee time entry, process payroll adjustments, and support payroll reconciliation.
• Ensure compliance with I‑9 verification, university payroll policies, and FTE limits for student employment.
• Generate and review Workday reports to support HR and payroll monitoring.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent HR and payroll tasks.
• Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with university HR policies.
• Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with various university departments.
