Hourly Activity Therapist

About the role

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking an Hourly Activity Therapist (PRN) to join the team at Georgia Regional Hospital – Atlanta in Decatur. This part‑time, on‑site position supports clients’ mental and physical well‑being through therapeutic recreation.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs such as sports, gardening, music, arts and crafts.
• Conduct assessments of clients’ conditions and recommend appropriate recreational activities.
• Deliver therapy sessions that improve mental and physical health.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and evaluate individualized treatment plans.
• Observe, record, and adjust client participation and progress during sessions.
• Prepare and submit reports documenting client reactions, progress, or regression.

Required profile

• Ability to conduct therapy sessions and assess client needs.
• Strong communication skills for teamwork with medical staff, families, and clients.
• Commitment to encouraging clients to acquire new health‑promoting skills.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Required skills

• Knowledge of DSM‑IV assessment for psychological disorders.
• Familiarity with exercise programs such as yoga, aerobics, walking, and relaxation techniques.
• Ability to use recreation therapy assessment tools to document client progress.
• Capability to plan, develop, and structure activity programs according to policies and client needs.
