Horticultural Attendant Foreman

About the role

The Horticultural Attendant Foreman supervises and performs chemical application activities across LSU's main campus and other sites. This role ensures proper treatment of weeds and insects on turf, planting beds, trees, water features, and built environments while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise staff and personally apply herbicides and insecticides to turf, mulched areas, flowerbeds, shrubs, trees, drainage canals, lakes, ponds, building perimeters, fences, parking lots, and sidewalks (approximately 65% of time).
• Perform additional duties when chemical application is not possible, such as interior plant maintenance, hand‑weeding, equipment preventive maintenance, greenhouse or can‑yard activities, and flowerbed upkeep (about 20%).
• Maintain accurate records of chemical use, order supplies, keep licensing current, and manage inventory of the chemical shed (about 10%).

Required profile

• Valid Louisiana State pesticide applicator license.
• Strong understanding of pesticide safety, product labels, and state regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills, self‑initiative, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Capability to operate and calibrate spray equipment mounted on tractors, ATVs, or golf carts.
