Histology Technician / Histotechnologist – Immunohistochemistry

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a Histology Technician or Histotechnologist to work evenings in the Immunohistochemistry‑Diagnostics Institute. The role involves preparing high‑quality tissue samples that support accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, and section tissue specimens using microtomes, cryostats and related equipment.
• Perform routine and specialized staining procedures, including histochemical, enzyme, immunohistochemical and in‑situ hybridization stains.
• Mount, label, and distribute slides for pathologist review while maintaining accurate specimen documentation.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform daily maintenance, coordinate repairs, and prepare reagents, buffers, and solutions.

Required profile

• ASCP certification eligible in Histology (Technician) or Histotechnologist certification (HT/HTL) for the Histotechnologist track.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field (Histotechnologist) or meet CLIA qualifications.
• One year of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA chemical‑hygiene and bloodborne‑pathogen requirements.

Required skills

• Operation of microtomes, cryostats, and automated staining instrumentation.
• Execution of immunohistochemistry, in‑situ hybridization, histochemical and enzyme staining protocols.
• Preparation of reagent buffers, solutions, and stains.
• Documentation of patient and specimen data, record‑keeping, and quality‑control practices.
