Histology Lab Supervisor – Anatomical Pathology

About the role

This role oversees daily operations, technical and personnel management of the Histology Department, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and Ochsner policies while maintaining a patient‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily operations of the histology laboratory.
• Supervise, train and develop department staff.
• Oversee performance improvement and quality control programs.
• Ensure fiscal responsibility and participate in Ochsner PALM and department projects.
• Maintain a patient/client‑focused section that complies with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
• Oversee training of all personnel and perform technical work as needed.
• Stay current with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in high‑complexity testing under a qualified Medical Director.
• Current Louisiana license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist or Specialist) meeting CLIA and CAP requirements.
• ASCP certification as a Histotechnologist or Medical Technologist.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Physical ability to lift up to 100 lb and perform repetitive motions such as stooping, bending, and reaching.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑based applications and laboratory information systems.
• Strong analytical skills for data interpretation, equipment troubleshooting, and report preparation.
• Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Experience managing laboratory computer equipment and maintaining system logs.
