Healthy Housing Research & Policy Intern

About the role

Habitat for Humanity's Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter is seeking a graduate-level intern to support research on the links between housing conditions and health outcomes. The role will contribute to building an evidence base and technical framework over a 6‑8 month period.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct an evidence review across housing and health domains, synthesizing peer‑reviewed literature and program learnings.
• Produce an annotated evidence map linking housing conditions to health outcomes and map organizations working at the housing‑health nexus.
• Support development of a theory of change with evidence‑based indicators and draft language for an organizational technical framework.
• Deliver a final learning product such as a policy brief or evidence synthesis in consultation with supervisors.

Required profile

• Current enrollment in an accredited MPH, MSc Public Health, Health Policy, Environmental Health, Global Health, Urban Health or Implementation Science program.
• Understanding of social determinants of health and population health frameworks.
• Ability to read, evaluate, and synthesize peer‑reviewed public health literature.
• Experience turning academic evidence into clear, accessible language for non‑academic audiences.

Required skills

• Use of AI tools to support research gathering and data analysis.
• Qualitative research methods, including key informant interviews and surveys.
• Evidence grading and distinguishing strong from weak claims.
• Strong written communication in English for development practitioners and donors.
