Head of Legal

About the role

Rillet is seeking its first in‑house counsel to build the legal function from the ground up and serve as a strategic partner as the company scales domestically and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement Rillet’s legal strategy, priorities, and operating model for growth.
• Advise the executive team and Board on strategic, legal, and risk considerations.
• Build scalable frameworks, workflows, and playbooks, leveraging AI tools for contract review and research.
• Review and negotiate commercial agreements, partnering with revenue teams to balance protection and speed.
• Guide product teams on legal and compliance issues throughout the development lifecycle.
• Provide privacy, data‑protection, and AI regulatory guidance.
• Oversee corporate governance, equity administration, financing rounds, and Board matters.
• Support People team on employment matters, policies, and workplace issues.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active member of a U.S. state bar, licensed in California or New York.
• 10+ years of experience as in‑house counsel and at top‑tier law firms.
• Experience scaling high‑growth companies through the 150‑500 employee range.
• Generalist legal expertise with corporate governance, equity, and employment matters.
• Proven ability to negotiate commercial contracts and manage risk.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of privacy, data protection, AI, and IP transactions.
• Ability to use AI and automation to increase legal efficiency.
