Head of Environmental

About the role

The Head of Environmental will lead APM Terminals Pier 400’s environmental strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving sustainability initiatives across a complex port operation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the terminal’s environmental strategy aligned with business objectives and sustainability commitments.
• Lead the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Port of Los Angeles regulations.
• Oversee audits, inspections, permit management, reporting, and corrective actions.
• Drive emissions reduction, waste minimisation, resource conservation and support electrification and decarbonisation projects.
• Build strong relationships with regulators, customers, industry groups and community stakeholders.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing environmental team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability or related field.
• 10+ years of environmental leadership experience in a large industrial, logistics or port environment.
• Proven ability to influence senior leaders and manage cross‑functional initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Lean‑mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
