Grocery Department Manager

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Grocery Department Manager for its Canton, MI store. The manager is responsible for the engagement of all team members in their span of care, including recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. They also oversee area operations and financials such as shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts.

Key responsibilities

• Engage team members with onboarding, training, development, coaching and feedback
• Identify talent and hold career conversations to build a diverse pipeline for team and leadership roles
• Hold candid discussions so Meijer standards are upheld and team members can grow
• Own area operations and financial results, including budget line items in the P&L, and drive sales and productivity
• Drive safety and compliance, and follow all compliance procedures in the store
• Ensure Team Leaders and Leads assign daily work and training needs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience
• Progressive leadership experience preferred
• Ability to communicate clearly and give precise direction
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and make informed decisions
• Strong business acumen and understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising
