Full-Time Sonographer – Jefferson Hwy

About the role

Join Ochsner’s compassionate imaging team as a full‑time Sonographer at the Jefferson Hwy location. Working closely with staff radiologists, you will independently perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures and serve as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Key responsibilities

• Verify physician orders and ensure accurate procedure documentation.
• Operate ultrasound equipment and radiology information systems to acquire diagnostic‑quality images.
• Explain procedures to patients, obtain consent, and adapt communication to diverse patient populations.
• Review and transmit images, perform quality‑control checks, and notify radiologists of findings.
• Assist in departmental operations such as inventory management, scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Completion of a CAHEA‑approved diagnostic medical sonography program.
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential or eligibility within one year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Knowledge of abdominal anatomy (liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, pancreas) and ability to perform related ultrasound examinations.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with diagnostic ultrasound equipment.
• Experience using radiology information systems and other clinical software.
• Computer literacy for web‑based applications and documentation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) skills.
