Full-Time Lab Assistant – Jeff Hwy Day Shift

About the role

Ochsner is seeking a full‑time Laboratory Assistant to support the Jeff Hwy Day laboratory team. The position involves performing a range of specimen handling tasks, from collection to processing, while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, receive, and process specimens, including phlebotomy, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling, and distribution to test sites.
• Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures, maintain equipment, and conduct quality‑control checks.
• Enter and retrieve data using the laboratory information system (LIS) and manage inventory of supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience working in a controlled environment with safety protocols for chemicals and blood‑borne pathogens.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant (or Trainee) license, or ability to obtain it within 180 days of hire.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques.
• Proficiency with Windows‑based applications and laboratory software for data entry and retrieval.
• Operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and printers.
