Full-Time Code Enforcement Officer & Department Head

About the role

The Town of New Hartford is looking for a qualified Code Enforcement Officer who will also serve as the head of the Codes Department. This full‑time position oversees the administration and enforcement of state and local building, fire, zoning, and related codes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all code‑enforcement activities within the town.
• Review and issue building permits and certificates of occupancy.
• Conduct inspections of buildings and construction projects.
• Issue notices for unsafe or non‑compliant conditions.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for municipal officials.

Required profile

• Certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to NYS Department of State requirements.
• Strong knowledge of building construction practices, building trades, and fire‑prevention principles.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with contractors, officials, and residents.
