FT Admitting Clerk

About the role

Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson is hiring a full-time Admitting Clerk. The role greets patients and family members promptly and courteously, answers phones, takes messages and directs callers to the right people. It involves interpreting admission forms, collecting deposits and co-pays, and distributing information to ancillary departments. There are no supervisory responsibilities and no travel.

Key responsibilities

• Pre-register patients for outpatient procedures, register ER patients and inpatient admissions, and notify patients of estimated liability.
• Interview patients or their representatives to verify personal information, obtain signatures and complete registration items.
• Verify scheduled patients, activate accounts, apply ID arm bands and give admission packets, HIPAA brochures, payment guidelines and living will information.
• Ensure valuables are taken home or secured in a locked safe.
• Perform up-front collections on non-emergency patients and direct those who cannot pay to the Financial Counselor.
• Receive room assignments from nursing, assign services and accommodations, and direct patients to the right departments.
• Handle cashiering duties, reconcile cash drawers and safes, and complete the daily census and hospital report.
• Discharge patients, verify insurance eligibility, and contact insurers or HMOs for outpatient approvals.
• Answer phones professionally, input observation charges, and adapt to shift changes and other duties.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical terminology and previous registration experience are desirable.
• No license or certification required.
• Willingness to receive required vaccinations and to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
