Frozen Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Frozen Foods Department Manager in Spring Lake Park. The manager sets the department's standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and profitability, and presents fresh, high-quality products at competitive prices. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, the Store Manager and the assistant managers of Store Operations, Perishables and Health Wellness Home.

Key responsibilities

• Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and set department standards for customer service, cleanliness and sanitation
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate department employees, and determine weekly schedules and daily work plans
• Inspect signage and displays, order product for replenishment, and plan displays, promotions and pre-orders
• Maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures, troubleshoot equipment and ensure maintenance is done
• Handle customer issues, figure retail pricing, extend and post invoices and oversee department bookkeeping
• Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, prepare ad projections and write ads, and conduct department inventory
• Supervise staff, approve discipline, recommend transfers, discharges and salary increases, and coordinate activities
• Secondary duties include filling displays, checking in delivered goods, unloading trucks, working in the sales area and helping in other store areas

Required profile

• High school diploma or over one year of related work experience
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and handle filing, copying, interviewing and guiding people
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, with normal vision and full range of motion
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with temperature extremes, dampness and exposure to cleaning chemicals

Required skills

• Basic arithmetic and record keeping
• Use of a forklift, pallet jacks, cash register, computer and C.A.R.S. reordering system

What we offer

• Anticipated hourly starting wage of $18.00 to $22.50 depending on experience
