Floral Designer

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Floral Designer in its floral department. The designer creates arrangements to customer specifications, leads floral clerks and keeps the department stocked, fresh and running smoothly. The role covers processing FTD and Teleflora orders, advising customers on floral care and leading the department when needed. It is an hourly position.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, advise them on plant and floral care, take special requests and create arrangements to exact specifications
• Clean, process and cut flowers properly and wrap them carefully
• Fill customer orders on time, including arrangements for weddings, funerals and anniversaries
• Process FTD, interstore, Teleflora and internet orders and keep order details confidential
• Inventory product, check freshness, care for damaged goods and replace as needed
• Train floral clerks on simple designs, phone orders and daily tasks, and instruct and review the work of others
• Order flowers and supplies daily or as needed with the Floral Manager's direction
• Place specials in the store, stay current on industry trends and help decorate in-store events
• Unload trucks, store product and replenish merchandise, and answer the phone promptly

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three years of similar or related work experience preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, use sharp knives and blades safely, and handle heat and cleaning chemicals
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards, if applicable

Required skills

• Strong floral design skills and knowledge of floral products, care and handling, and plant and flower identification
• Math skills including fractions, decimals and percentages
• Clear communication with customers, team members and vendors

The anticipated starting hourly wage is $14.00 to $17.50 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
