Dairy Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Dairy Clerk in its Spring Lake Park store. The clerk rotates and replenishes dairy merchandise while keeping quality standards high, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service: greet customers, learn their names, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and answer the telephone.
• Rotate and replenish merchandise, face merchandise and build end-cap displays.
• Unload trucks and place product in the right storage area, keeping the area organized, the floor dry and the temperature correct.
• Clean cases and sweep the floor, and keep the department tidy.
• Order product requested by the department manager and take part in monthly and quarterly physical inventories.
• Follow department and company guidelines on hygiene, dress and punctuality, and report to work on time.

Required profile

• Less than high school education or equivalent, with six months or less of similar or related experience.
• Able to solve practical problems, follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, and do simple addition and subtraction.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull and lift.
• Visual acuity within 20 inches to 20 feet, with or without correction.

Working conditions

• Fast-paced environment with exposure to noise and temperature extremes, dirt and dampness, and occasional equipment hazards.
• Daily contact with suppliers, vendors and customers.
• Uses box cutter, two-wheeler, ice cream carts, milk dollies, cash register, pallet jack and other equipment.

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $13.00 to $16.25 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
