Front Desk Associate – Shelter Reception

About the role

The Front Desk Associate is the first point of contact for participants, visitors, and community partners at Just Compassion’s Tigard Shelter. Working on‑site, this full‑time position blends hospitality with administrative duties to ensure a welcoming, safe, and trauma‑informed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and assist participants, visitors, and service providers in a professional, trauma‑informed manner.
• Answer and route phone calls, emails, and in‑person inquiries to the appropriate staff.
• Monitor entry/exit activity, maintain sign‑in logs, and uphold building security.
• Enter and maintain participant data, service records, and bed utilization information in HMIS and internal systems.
• Prepare logs, reports, and other administrative documentation as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in administrative support, customer service, or front‑desk operations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to stay calm, professional, and solution‑focused in fast‑paced or crisis situations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience using Google Workspace or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) or comparable data‑management systems.
