FPGA Engineer

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for an FPGA engineer to turn complex protocols and algorithms into high-throughput FPGA blocks. Working closely with RF software engineers, you will write libraries that bridge the gap between fabric acceleration and high-level applications, so your code flies in space and becomes the backbone of ground systems handling millions of mission packets per second.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement all layers of satellite communication modems, from DSP blocks to network protocols.
• Analyze timing and resource requirements for existing and next-generation RF products.
• Create end-to-end test harnesses integrated into CI/CD pipelines.
• Work with RF software engineers to design high-performance libraries bridging FPGA and SOC.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics or another engineering discipline.
• 2+ years of professional FPGA development experience.
• Experience developing for Xilinx FPGA/SOC products.

Required skills

• Verilog, SystemVerilog or VHDL.
• Xilinx Vivado and Petalinux tooling (preferred).
• DSP fundamentals such as filters and PLLs (preferred).
• Embedded software in C++ or C (preferred).
• FPGA block stimulation and test benching (preferred).
• Satellite communication standards such as DVB-S2X and CCSDS (preferred).

What we offer

• Pay of $125,000 - $170,000 per year, depending on role, level, location and skills.
• Possible long-term incentives in the form of stock options for full-time hires.
• Medical, vision and dental coverage and a 401(k) retirement plan.
