Forklift Operator

About the role

Amentum is hiring a forklift operator for a warehouse setting where the position alternates between outdoor and indoor work. The role covers moving, stacking and storing goods, operating a forklift and carrying out inventory and housekeeping duties. The work environment involves frequent lifting of 20-60 pounds, standing, kneeling and walking.

Key responsibilities

• Move goods on pallets or in crates around the storage facility according to storage, shelf-life and staging requirements
• Stack goods in the correct bays and secure loads, including palletizing, shipping and moving material
• Store empty pallets and crates, and unload incoming vehicles and stack materials to assigned places
• Perform daily equipment checks such as recharging the forklift battery and lubricating equipment
• Dispose of waste and recyclables using machine hoppers, roll-offs and other equipment
• Locate and move stock to pallets or crates, identify damaged goods and report shortages or quality issues
• Rearrange and take inventory of stored materials, examine them and report deterioration and damage
• Use bar code wands, labeling equipment, laser scanners and computer terminals, possibly requiring a CAC for system access
• Follow all safety rules, wear required PPE, and perform housekeeping and maintenance duties

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, and 12 months of job-related experience or training
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate a government general-purpose vehicle
• Ability to pass and maintain a security clearance; US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location
• Ability to speak, read and understand English
• Available for any shift, including weekends, and able to obtain facility credentials
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and urinary analysis

Required skills

• Operation of a manually controlled gasoline, electric or LPG-powered forklift
• Use of bar code wands, laser scanners and labeling equipment
• Planning, organizing and working under deadlines

What we offer

• Hourly pay of $26.49, set by the collective bargaining agreement
• $7.50 per hour paid, up to 80 hours per pay period, toward medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, employee assistance and short-term disability insurance
• Paid vacation and annual holiday allowance (144 hours for 0-5 years, 194 for 5-10, 224 for 10-15, 264 for more than 15 years of service)
• 401k and 11 paid holidays per year (prorated depending on hire date)
