Food Service Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market, a retailer of real, affordable organic food, is hiring a Food Service Clerk in Greenfield. The clerk keeps food service cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows the Food Service Department's procedures. The position suits someone passionate about the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep food service cases, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock cases with product presentation, facing, filling and organization, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and receive, inspect and log incoming goods for shipment, temperature and quality.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and prepare food service items with correct ingredients and cooking times.
• Weigh and label products accurately, take part in pre-inventory preparation and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in food service, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to adapt to high-volume retail, multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines, and work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail and basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
