Float Patient Access Specialist - Full Time

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction, is hiring a full-time float Patient Access Specialist. The specialist delivers a dynamic customer experience, registers patients, verifies insurance and authorizes visits, and acts as a liaison between patients and hospital services.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, insurance and medical information to ensure accurate and complete registration.
• Perform insurance verification, collect and document data, and maintain proper documentation in all systems.
• Identify patient financial responsibilities and collect applicable monies.
• Process authorizations electronically via payer portals, fax or telephone, working with payers to secure them.
• Answer phones, respond to questions, direct calls and document messages.
• Communicate with physicians, managers, peers and trainees, and promote effective communication with staff.
• Check for data errors and use them to educate team members.
• Adhere to contractual requirements of Medicare, Medicaid and managed care plans, run daily update and insurance exception reports, and complete end-of-day duties.
• Provide coverage for co-workers' responsibilities when assigned or as needed.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent; billing and coding certification preferred.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
• Experience with EMR systems, insurance verification, eligibility and electronic billing.
• Knowledge of health insurance plans and benefits, and ability to interpret them.
• Customer support experience, medical terminology knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work under pressure, independently and with good time management.
• Physical requirements: long periods of sitting, lifting up to 40 lbs and carrying up to 20 lbs, and manual dexterity for typing and data entry.
