Firmware HIL Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Firmware HIL Engineer to design, build, and maintain hardware-in-the-loop test infrastructure for our vehicle operating system platform. The role combines software development, embedded hardware debugging, and DevOps to ensure reliable testing of physical AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and extend Python/Bash test automation frameworks that interact with real hardware.
• Design, scale, and operate hardware test labs comprising hundreds of test benches and thousands of daily jobs.
• Diagnose and resolve flaky integration tests in continuous integration pipelines.
• Write and maintain on-target firmware and embedded software that communicates with PC-side applications.
• Perform low-level debugging using JTAG tools, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Implement and support Linux system administration for bare-metal test machines, including networking, udev, kernel modules, and systemd.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years focused on system architecture and implementation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

Required skills

• Python and Bash scripting (cmd2, pytest).
• Embedded hardware debugging (JTAG – JLINK, Lauterbach, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
• Experience building test frameworks for physical hardware and scaling test infrastructure.
• Linux command line and systems administration on bare-metal machines.
• CI/HIL concepts and CI/CD pipeline tools (Buildkite, Jenkins, self-hosted runners).
• Familiarity with CAN/CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay, SocketCAN.
• Knowledge of Bazel, monorepo management, and Nix/NixOS (flakes, modules).
