Finance & Accounting Manager

About the role

African Collaborative, which funds African-led organizations, is bringing its finance function in-house. The Finance Team consists of a fractional CFO and the Finance & Accounting Manager, who owns the day-to-day finance work. The role is remote (U.S. Eastern Time preferred, Central Time possible), full-time, with no direct reports, and starts in January 2027. It is a hybrid role split roughly 60-70% financial management and analysis and 30-40% accounting and transaction management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online, including accurate transaction coding, revenue and expense recognition, bank and account reconciliations and audit-ready records.
• Implement GAAP reporting requirements and deliver a timely monthly close with accrual-based financials and management summaries.
• Review grant agreements and represent revenues correctly across restricted-by-spend, restricted-by-time and unrestricted grants.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly BvA and present insights to management and the board, and lead the annual audit and 990/tax filings.
• Build and run the annual budgeting process with the COO and CFO, support budget owners with variances and forecasts, and help build multiyear budgets.
• Support grant reporting, renewals and funder requests, and keep cashflow and financial dashboards current.
• Flag budget variances and liquidity risks early, and prepare quarterly materials for the Finance Committee and Board.
