Family Physician

About the role

The Family Physician provides preventative care and health services to patients of the Colusa Indian Health Clinic, following guidelines from the American Association of Family Practitioners and clinic policies. The role works closely with the Medical Director and Clinic Operations Director to ensure high‑quality health services for the Tribal Community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver preventative care, manage chronic and complex conditions for all clinic patients.
• Coordinate care using the Patient Centered Medical Home model.
• Build long‑term patient relationships and educate patients on health management.
• Diagnose and document patient conditions using ICD‑9 and ICD‑10 guidelines.
• Utilize the clinic’s Electronic Health Record system and meet Meaningful Use measures.
• Collaborate with RN and SDPI coordinator on diabetes prevention and treatment.
• Participate in clinical Quality Improvement programs and maintain accurate electronic records.
• Assist in supervising medical staff and contribute to policy development and quality assurance.

Required profile

• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school; Board Eligible/Certified.
• Minimum one year experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
• Current, unrestricted California medical license, DEA registration, and CPR certification.
• Valid NPI number, registered with Medicare (preferably via PECOS), and active Medi‑Cal provider enrollment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ICD‑9 and ICD‑10 coding.
• Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Knowledge of NPI registration and Medicare billing processes.
• DEA registration compliance.
