Family Literacy Specialist – Adult Education (Part‑Time)

About the role

The Family Literacy Specialist supports West Georgia Technical College’s Adult Education program by linking student‑parents with resources that strengthen family literacy while they pursue their own educational goals. This part‑time position (19 hours/week) works closely with faculty and community partners to create a supportive network for families.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Family Literacy Program, including parent engagement, instructional support, and community partnerships (≈75%).
• Develop and implement family‑literacy activities and materials for adult learners and their children (≈10%).
• Establish or connect a community Parent Club for Adult Education students (≈5%).
• Manage schedules, facilities, materials, and logistics for program events and maintain program calendars (≈5%).
• Promote participation in workshops, events, and other literacy initiatives (≈5%).

Required profile

• Knowledge of best practices, rules, and testing requirements related to adult education and family literacy.
• Ability to break larger tasks into manageable components.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer operation and job‑related software.
• Accurate record‑keeping and organizational abilities.
• Interpersonal skills for public interaction and partnership building.
• Effective decision‑making and problem‑solving capabilities.
