About the role
The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Fall 2026 Intern to support its Asylum Seekers and Families program in San Diego. This unpaid position offers hands‑on experience in case management, community outreach, and cross‑cultural communication.
Key responsibilities
- Assist case managers in supporting asylum seekers and their families.
- Accompany clients to health, legal, and school appointments.
- Help clients navigate San Diego public transit by riding buses and metros with them.
- Develop outreach materials and deliver presentations to community partners.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities for the Safety & Wellness Department.
- Conduct screening calls, work with interpreters, and determine client eligibility.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in an Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s program in social work, public health, gender studies, business, communication, economics, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Organized, proactive, flexible, and motivated to learn.
