Executive Director, Physician Logistics & Optimization

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking an Executive Director to lead Physician Logistics and Optimization. This senior leader will shape ambulatory access strategy, drive workflow improvements, and ensure that provider scheduling aligns with patient demand and institutional goals.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze operational and performance data to identify opportunities for aligning business processes with technology, focusing on provider scheduling, patient demand, and capacity.
• Oversee system‑wide provider template optimization, scheduling decision trees, and the physician logistics team responsible for building and maintaining provider schedules.
• Apply Lean leadership principles to improve patient, physician, and staff satisfaction across the system.
• Lead all phases of process improvement—from current‑state analysis to future‑state workflow design, testing, implementation, and evaluation.
• Collect and use benchmarking data to set targets for scheduling workflows, Epic scheduling functionality, template utilization, access reporting, and training.
• Prepare reports, statistics, and surveys to evaluate departmental, operational, and fiscal performance.
• Develop recommendations for scheduling optimization based on analytics and facilitate multidisciplinary teams to achieve organizational goals.
• Define project scopes, coordinate with UHealth IT, ambulatory leadership, and operational partners, and guide projects through implementation and support.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in healthcare operations, preferably within ambulatory or hospital settings.
• Strong background in process improvement methodologies such as Lean.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, develop actionable insights, and drive system‑wide change.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills to collaborate with clinical, IT, and administrative teams.
