Evening Reference Librarian

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is seeking an Evening Reference Librarian to provide reference services during evening hours. This full-time, tenured-track faculty position supports students and faculty with in-person, email and phone assistance and contributes to the library’s instructional mission.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver reference assistance in-person, by email and phone during the scheduled evening shift (Sunday‑Thursday, 1 p.m.‑10 p.m.).
• Maintain and develop print and digital reference collections, research guides and subject guides on the library website.
• Teach library instruction sessions, including co‑instruction of the one‑credit LIBR 100 Online Information Literacy course.
• Supervise the library services technician and work‑study assistants.
• Collect, analyze and report reference statistics on an hourly basis.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by library leadership.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in library science or a related field from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Experience using online catalogs, discovery tools and electronic databases.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse users and colleagues.
• Strong commitment to high‑quality public service.
• Awareness of emerging information‑technology trends.
• Capability to conduct effective library instruction.
