Environmental Engineer for Groundwater & Soil Vapor Remediation

About the role

North Wind Services is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support the CERCLA program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The role involves planning, designing, testing, and operating groundwater and soil vapor remediation systems at the Livermore Site 200 and Site 300.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced engineering support for environmental remediation activities, ensuring compliance with DOE, federal and state regulations.
• Research, develop, design, and test cost‑effective solutions for groundwater and soil vapor remediation systems.
• Monitor treatment system operations, identify optimization opportunities, and implement improvements.
• Plan and conduct field experiments to validate new remediation technologies.
• Oversee existing system operations and the design and construction of new systems.
• Prepare and review technical and regulatory documents to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience with environmental remediation system design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of California and Federal remediation regulations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DOE clearance.

Required skills

• Groundwater and soil vapor remediation system design.
• Extraction and injection wellhead design, pump specifications, treatment media, pipelines, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Pressure and flow calculations, environmental chemistry, treatability testing.
• SCADA and Human Machine Interface (HMI) operation.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
